The European Championships are underway in Kaunas, Lithuania and on Thursday afternoon, the pairs' free skate will take place as the pairs continue to battle for the top of the podium. A total of 167 combined skaters and couples representing 32 ISU Members have been entered for this 116th edition of the European Championships. The competition began with the short program on Wednesday and ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champions Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava of Georgia soared to the top of the leaderboard with a score of 71.30, a personal best for the pair. Metelkina and Berulava nailed a triple twist, side-by-side triple Salchow, throw triple Lutz and picked up a level four for the twist, the lift, the spin and the death spiral.

Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin of Germany entered the European Championships as the pairs' favorites after winning the ISU Grand Prix and currently sit in second place ahead of the Free Skate with a score of 69.63. Italy’s Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise are currently ranked third as the pair finished with a score of 67.05 in the Free Skate portion of the competition.
